Whenever I hear jazz, I think of my dad. When I was a kid, driving around downtown Portland, the world outside the car dark but illuminated by the lights of the city… the rain pattering against the windows, creating pinpricks of glowing light… I’m lulled by the smooth sounds and the gentle movement of the car, my lids growing heavy and lethargic…
